Conflict of Interest Policy
The Kronkosky Charitable Foundation maintains a Conflict of Interest Policy for its staff to ensure independence and integrity in its recommendations to the Distribution Committee. Staff may not accept any form of compensation, gifts, or favors from any organization or representative that anticipates submitting a grant proposal to the Foundation, has submitted a proposal, or has received a grant. Further, the Foundation does not make grants to organizations on whose Board (governing or advisory) a member of its staff serves. Finally, the staff of the Foundation may not participate in fund-raising feasibility studies.

Applying for a Grant

> Commonly Asked Questions
Who does the Foundation fund?
The Foundation makes grants only to corporate organizations that are exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation will not make grants to individuals or for-profit organizations. In addition, the Foundation has a geographic limitation that requires that grant funds be used in Bandera, Bexar, Comal, and Kendall counties in Texas.

If my organization is not based in one of the four counties, may I still apply to the foundation for support?
The Foundation supports programs that directly affect persons living in Bandera, Bexar, Comal, and Kendall counties. Provided the project funds requested from the Foundation will be spent in one or more of these counties, and benefit primarily residents of those counties, your organization is eligible to apply.

If an organization is primarily funded by government grants, although it is an organization exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code, may it apply for a grant from the foundation?
All organizations are encouraged to submit Letters of Inquiries for programs consistent with the Program Goals of the Foundation. However, meaningful non-governmental support representative of broad community support is an important factor in the decision making process of the Foundation.

What is the review process once my Letter of Inquiry is received?
Upon receipt of your letter, we will determine whether or not it meets our guidelines and Program Goals. If it does not, you will be immediately notified in writing. If your Letter of Inquiry does meet our requirements, it will be reviewed by staff within 30 days of receipt. If your proposal is accepted to proceed to the next stage of review, a Grants Manager will send you an application package as well as a timeline for your submission of the grant proposal. If your proposal is not accepted to proceed, you will be notified in writing.

How often does the foundation's distribution committee meet to review grant proposals?

The Distribution Committee meets six times per year, usually in January, March, May, July, September and November.

> Letters of Inquiry

Effective September 5, 2009, the Foundation will only accept Letters of Inquiry from 501(c)(3)nonprofit organizations who are active GuideStar Exchange Members, a free service provided by GuideStar www.guidestar.org  The purposes of this requirement are to increase the transparency of nonprofit organizations in our service area and to reduce paperwork associated with grant applications.

When applying to the Foundation for support, please make certain that your request addresses one or more of our program goals. We have listed program proposals of interest to the Foundation (outlined after each stated goal); however, applications that extend beyond those proposals of interest are also encouraged. Once you have determined that there is a match between your request and the Foundation's mission, focus, and program goals, you may submit a Letter of Inquiry of a maximum of four pages in length. Because of the large number of requests the Foundation receives and the time required to develop a complete grant proposal, we urge applicants not to send full proposals unless they have been requested to do so by a Foundation staff member in response to a Letter of Inquiry.
